First-Generation students or students who are the first generation of their family to attend college in the USA make up 25% of Hofstra students and 33% of this year’s first-year class. Being the first to go to college can be scary, confusing, and isolating.
The First-Gen Pride Committee of volunteer faculty and administrators works together to create opportunities for first-gens to meet each other, engage in social and educational programming, and celebrate their achievements. From welcome socials, Celebrate First-Gen Students Week events, financial literacy workshops, and monthly family dinners in the Living Learning Community, to the annual graduation celebration, we want first-gens to feel at home on Hofstra’s campus. Your generous donation will go directly towards those efforts that directly benefit first-gen students and help achieve this goal.
