First-generation students—those who are the first in their families to attend college in the U.S.—make up one-third of Hofstra’s student population. Yet, nationally, only 1 in 6 first-generation students earn a four-year degree. Being the first in your family to navigate college can be daunting, confusing, and even isolating. Your support can help change that.
In 2023, Hofstra established the Office of First-Generation Support and Engagement to provide first-gen students with opportunities to connect, thrive, and celebrate their achievements. This includes welcome socials, Celebrate First-Gen Students Week events, financial literacy workshops, and monthly family dinners in the Living Learning Community. The office also hosts an annual graduation celebration to honor their incredible milestones.
Your generous gift will directly support these programs, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for first-gen students. Together, we can ensure more first-generation students graduate, opening the door to brighter futures.
