At Hofstra, we understand the importance of preparing our students for the global economy and the evolving world of work. The Frank G. Zarb School of Business Dean's Fund provides funding for student experiential learning in managing investments, research, technology, and entrepreneurship.
- The Zarb Core Skills Lab is a newly launched state-of-the-art lab and virtual reality space that allows students to immerse themselves in various simulated environments to enhance their communication, presentation, and collaborative skills to help them become workforce-ready. The lab is located on the first floor of Leo A. Guthart Hall for Innovation and Discovery at the Zarb School of Business.
- The Hofstra chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international accounting honor society, provides growth, service, and networking opportunities. Students hear from professionals from firms including Deloitte, EY, Grant Thorton, and KPMG, among others, at weekly meetings, visit companies, attend national conferences, and participate in networking events and service activities.
- The state-of-the-art Behavioral Research in Business Laboratory allows students to participate in sophisticated, multidisciplinary behavioral research. They gain experience working with technology, including advanced analytical hardware and software, to analyze behavior for business-focused research. In the lab, they learn how to record and analyze eye movements, facial expressions, and more, conducting studies for clients as part of class projects.
- Through the interdisciplinary Cybersecurity Innovation and Research Center, a joint project of the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Zarb School, students are being trained for cybersecurity careers of tomorrow. The Center provides opportunities for participation in programming, including a capture-the-flag-type activity to learn about trends in system security exploits and defense and coding academies for high school students.
- The Dean's Business Scholars program provides high-achieving students with enrichment and networking opportunities, including career development guidance from our Office of Graduate Business Career Relations with access to exclusive internship and job opportunities and visits to hubs for trade and commerce, think tanks, centers for policymaking, and major corporations in the New York City metropolitan area.
- The Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Program (LEIP) provides an exceptional opportunity for 11th and 12th graders at underserved Hempstead High School. Over five months, students engage in a tailored Zarb School first-year business course (BBA 100) to earn three college credits upon completion. Led by experienced faculty, the program equips students with essential business knowledge and skills while exploring interdisciplinary fields such as law, engineering, health sciences, and liberal arts, inspiring a future of possibilities.
- The Zarb Summer Business Experience is a two-week, two-session immersive experience held in July at the Zarb School of Business for high school students interested in pursuing college and careers in business and technology.
- Students serve global communities through an innovative International Entrepreneurship Consulting Course. Graduate and undergraduate students studying all disciplines learn about the global economy, analyzing the political, social, technological, environmental, and legal factors facing small businesses. They then put their skills into practice and work with global entrepreneurs abroad during spring break to help develop practical solutions to their business problems. Students have traveled to South Africa, Israel, and the UK for this experiential opportunity.
- Our Student Managed Investment Fund allows students to manage an investment pool of real money. Students who meet the qualifying requirements can gain experience as portfolio managers and security analysts using Bloomberg professional terminals to manage investments.
- The Student Managed Sustainability Fund is a new opportunity for students to manage actual money and make investment decisions that integrate environmental, social, and governance considerations into their assessment of stock recommendations.
- The Zarb Store (TZS) is a student-run enterprise featuring Zarb-branded apparel and novelties for sale in a retail space at Zarb's CV Starr Hall. Students can intern at the store starting their first year and assume roles of interest to support business operations, including marketing, advertising, accounting, purchasing, and management.
- Zarb School of Business also hosts speakers and conferences and features over 40 student organizations that enhance student connections and learning experiences.
These experiential learning opportunities are life-changing experiences that foster a student’s personal and academic growth. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, parents, and friends like you, the Dean’s Fund continues to offer these ways and more to expand our student horizons.
Today, please consider a gift to the Frank G. Zarb School of Business Dean's Fund and make a difference in the lives of our highly motivated students.
