The Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Opportunities Fund provides vital, flexible support that helps HCLAS students and faculty thrive—especially when opportunity or need arises unexpectedly.
This fund allows the Dean to respond quickly and meaningfully by:
- Assisting students facing urgent financial challenges, such as covering the cost of books or unexpected lab fees.
- Supporting faculty who present scholarship or research at prestigious conferences.
- Covering transportation costs that allow faculty to bring students to programs or research initiatives.
- Funding high-impact experiential learning opportunities for students that extend beyond the classroom.
Through this fund, more students gain access to transformative educational experiences, including off-campus internships, out-of-class research, and study-away opportunities across the United States and around the world. These high-impact practices deliver well-documented educational benefits. Internships reinforce classroom learning through hands-on application while building essential skills such as time management, communication, teamwork, and professional networking. Research experiences deepen critical thinking and problem-solving, while study-away programs immerse students in new cultural contexts, fostering adaptability, global awareness, and an appreciation for diversity.
When students encounter financial or logistical barriers, they often turn first to their faculty mentors. The Opportunities Fund ensures that faculty, in partnership with the Dean, can remove obstacles, open doors, and say “yes” to opportunities that meaningfully shape students’ academic paths and career trajectories.
A gift to the Day of Giving makes an immediate impact—expanding access, supporting discovery, and ensuring that students in the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences can participate in life-changing learning experiences when it matters most.
