Establishing the Paul Romano Memorial Scholarship at Hofstra University
Paul Romano devoted nearly 25 years of his life to Hofstra University — not just as a leader, but as a colleague, mentor, alumnus, and proud member of the Hofstra family. In his memory, Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues are coming together to establish the Paul Romano Memorial Scholarship, ensuring that his commitment to students and the University he loved continues for generations to come.
A Life of Service to Hofstra
Paul began his career at Hofstra in 2001 as an assistant trades supervisor and steadily advanced through the ranks, ultimately serving as Senior Director for Facilities and Administrative Services and a member of President Susan Poser’s Cabinet. Over the years, Paul touched nearly every corner of the University through his leadership on renovation and infrastructure projects — leaving a lasting imprint on Hofstra’s campus.
President Poser remembered Paul as “a wonderful colleague and a dedicated manager and craftsman,” while senior leaders consistently described him as loyal, thoughtful, and deeply invested in doing what was best for Hofstra and its students.
In 2024, when he was named senior director, Paul shared words that perfectly captured his devotion to the University: “This is exactly the position I’ve always wanted and exactly the place I want to be.”
A Proud Alumnus and Family Man
Paul’s connection to Hofstra extended far beyond his professional role. He was a two-time Hofstra alumnus, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business. His wife, Michele, and all four of his children — Louis '09, Paul '11, Dominick '20 and Gabrielle '23, '24 — are also part of the Hofstra community, making the University a true family home. He was also the proud grandpa to grandson, Santino James Paul.
Colleagues often spoke of Paul’s remarkable ability to balance leadership with kindness — and of the pride he took in his family, who were always at the center of his life.
