Support the Stuart and Nancy Rabinowitz Honors College

Honors College Student Emergency Fund

The Honors College Student Emergency Fund exists to support students when unexpected challenges arise. A sudden loss of employment, a family illness, or another unforeseen hardship can quickly place a student’s education and future at risk.

This fund provides immediate, short-term assistance to help students stay enrolled and focused on their studies. Over the years, it has helped cover essentials such as rent, food, diapers and baby food, and in some cases, partial tuition costs.

Your generosity has a direct and meaningful impact. Every dollar donated to the Honors College Student Emergency Fund goes entirely toward helping students in need—often at the exact moment it matters most. Together, we can ensure that a temporary hardship does not derail a student’s academic journey or their dreams.

Undergraduate Research Assistant Program at Hofstra

Spend just a few minutes talking with a student who has worked side-by-side with a faculty mentor on a cutting-edge research project, and you’ll hear words like “eye-opening,” “transformative,” and even “life-changing.” After just one or two of these conversations, it becomes clear why we are so committed to ensuring that these opportunities remain available to students year after year.

To support this vital work, the Rabinowitz Honors College created the RHC Research Assistant Fund. This fund allows friends and alumni to help students experience the excitement and impact of contributing new knowledge to their chosen fields of study.

At the heart of this effort is a simple goal: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. We invite you to consider making a gift to the RHC Research Assistant Fund, knowing that 100% of every donation goes directly to supporting student researchers.

  • $2,000 sponsors one student for a semester
  • $10,000 sponsors five students

Gifts of any size are deeply appreciated as every contribution adds up. All donations are fully tax-deductible and help make transformative research experiences possible.

RHC’s Service Leadership Program

The Rabinowitz Honors College’s 5-day Pre-Welcome Week Service Leadership Program introduces incoming students to service as a meaningful, reflective, and community-centered practice.

Led by five RHC student leaders and supported by Senior Associate Dean Tomeka Robinson and Associate Dean Lauren Burignat-Kozol, the program blends hands-on service with guided learning and reflection. Students spend three days working with nonprofit organizations in Hempstead and Uniondale, alongside learning days and evening sessions where student leaders engage first-year students in thoughtful conversations about how to approach service responsibly and respectfully.

These discussions explore topics such as understanding one’s positionality, listening to and taking direction from the communities being served, and recognizing the vital roles of advocacy and social activism. The program also features conversations with community leaders from Hempstead and Uniondale, grounding students’ experiences in local perspectives.

Serving as both an introduction and an incubator, the program inspires new students to continue their engagement through Rabinowitz Honors College’s ongoing community outreach initiatives, including tutoring at Hempstead High School, providing homework support at the Uniondale and Hempstead libraries, volunteering with the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) and the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC).

Through this program, students begin their Hofstra journey with a shared commitment to service, leadership, and meaningful community partnership.
