For 67 years, WRHU Radio Hofstra University has been dedicated to training the next generation of media professionals. Delivering compelling content spanning news, sports, public affairs, community programming, engineering/technology, music, and podcasts, WRHU has established itself as a cornerstone of excellence in media education. Its impressive alumni network includes leaders and talent across the media industry.
WRHU is a five-time recipient of the prestigious National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Award and the first student-run station to receive the World Radio Day Award from the Academy of Radio Arts & Sciences.
WRHU continues to excel as a proud partner of Hofstra Pride Athletics, providing audio play-by-play coverage for Hofstra teams, a tradition spanning over six decades. Additionally, WRHU is now in its 16th year of giving students the unparalleled opportunity to produce, distribute, and perform on-air roles on the New York Islanders Radio Network.
Donors to the WRHU Radio Fund play a critical role in supporting the professional development of more than 300 student staff members each year. Your contributions ensure students have access to the resources and experiences that prepare them for success, including:
- Nationwide Coverage: Traveling across the country to cover breaking news stories, political rallies, sports events, music festivals, and more.
- Multi-Platform Content Creation: Producing audio and video broadcasts of live games for Hofstra Pride Division I athletic teams.
- Professional Partnerships: Producing and distributing all New York Islanders live NHL games to SiriusXM, NHL.com, WRCN FM, WRHU FM, and the UBS+NY Islanders app.
- Basketball Coverage: Serving as engineers, on-air reporters, and hosts of pre- and post-game shows for the NBA G-League Long Island Nets home games.
- Community Impact: Highlighting important community stories through public affairs programming like Well Said (in partnership with the Donald Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University) and Newsline, a live local newscast.
Your support ensures today’s talented students—future journalists, media personalities, sportscasters, music producers, technical engineers, activists, media managers, and podcasters—have the tools they need to thrive in the industry. By donating, you help sustain the legacy of WRHU and strengthen its alumni network of media professionals.
